George J. Klausing; born Feb. 7, 1919; died Dec. 15, 2003
George J. Klausing, 84, of Lima, died at 8:22 a.m. Monday at St. Rita's Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 7, 1919 in Delphos, to Ben and Elizabeth Klausing.
On July 8, 1939, he married Marie M. (Gerdeman) Klausing, who survives in Lima.
Other survivors include three sons, Ronald (Nancy) Klausing of Ottawa and Bob (Jane) Klausing and John (Karen) Klausing of Lima; two daughters, Janet (Charles) Hatfield of South Bend, Ind., and Carol (Don) Lengerich of Decatur, Ind.; a brother, Richard (Lenore) Klausing of Spencerville; two sisters-in-law, Maggie Klausing of Delphos and Mary Klausing of Fort Jennings; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Karl, Frank and James Klausing; and a great-granddaughter, Emily Klausing.
Mr. Klausing retired in 1981 as an insurance agent with Prudential Insurance Company and had worked 20 years with Sealtest Dairies. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54, American Legion Post 96, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 370; and a past member of Fraternal Order of Police Association. He had also been a member of St. Gerard's Choir and the Monica Stevens Group which sang at various functions and nursing homes in and around Lima. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He enjoyed horses and singing.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Charles Catholic Church, the Rev. Stephen Blum officiating. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1275.
Friends may call 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Chiles and Sons-Laman Funeral Home, Shawnee Chapel, where a parish wake will be at 4 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to Lima Central Catholic High School or the Masses.
